Local Job of the Month: Drain Flies in a Glen Burnie Basement

Jun 05, 2023

Sometimes insecticides aren't the answer!

We had a new customer that had started seeing drain flies and moth flies in their basement. They gave us a call as soon as they noticed them.

When we see this it's typically a sanitation issue or structural problem and not something that insecticides can fix. Initially we thought the sump pump was the culprit and recommended cleaning this area. In the meantime we laid some traps to keep the grown adults to a minimum and informed the customer this would not treat the root cause only the symptoms.

A few days later the customer called to inform us that after a plumbing inspection they discovered they had a plumbing line break under the house causing excess moisture and they had a contractor dig up the concrete to find and repair the line.

We then informed her that this action alone would fix the root cause of the drain fly issue as it would take away the moisture needed for the drain flies to breed.

Moral of the story here is,  many times a pest issue can be fixed through structural repair without using any insecticides in a home.
